Maria Theresa (1717 - 1780), was born in Vienna on May 13, 1717 and she was one of the most beloved rulers of the Austrian empire. She was the oldest daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI.
Since Charles had no sons, in 1724, he created his Pragmatic Sanction, a decree that enabled Maria Theresa to inherit the Austrian lands. She ascended the throne at only 23 years old in 1740. |
